Add Your Own Amazon Creators API Credentials for Better Performance
We recently migrated FreshStore to Amazon’s new Creators API. Your stores are already covered and working on the new API with no action needed from you. Today we’re announcing a new option that lets you boost your store’s performance even further.
What’s New
FreshStore now supports adding your own Amazon Creators API credentials directly in your store settings. This is completely optional. Your stores already work without it. But if you have an active Amazon Associates account, adding your own credentials unlocks a real performance upgrade.
Think of it like having your own dedicated lane. FreshStore still handles all the technical integration for you. You just paste in your credentials and your stores start using them automatically.
What You Get
Adding your own credentials gives your stores three key advantages:
- Faster data refreshes. Your stores get priority access through your own credentials, so product prices, availability, and images update more quickly. This means your visitors always see the most current information.
- Fewer throttles. Your own credentials mean your stores are less likely to hit rate limits during busy periods. If you run multiple stores or have high-traffic pages, this makes a noticeable difference.
- Better international marketplace performance. This is especially valuable if you run stores on Amazon Germany, France, Italy, Spain, or other smaller marketplaces. Your own credentials significantly improve data quality and speed for non-US marketplaces.
How to Set It Up
The process is straightforward. Here’s the quick version:
- Sign into Associates Central for your marketplace.
- Go to Tools > Creators API and create an application.
- Wait for Amazon to approve it (typically 1 to 3 business days).
- Once approved, mint your credentials (an OAuth Client ID and Client Secret).
- Paste your credentials into Settings > Amazon > Creators API in your FreshStore dashboard and select the correct credential version for your region.
That’s it. FreshStore starts using your credentials automatically once they’re saved. No need to change any other settings.
We’ve written a detailed step-by-step walkthrough that covers the full process, including screenshots and troubleshooting tips: How to Register for Amazon Creators API.
A Few Things to Know
- One application per marketplace. Each Amazon marketplace (US, UK, DE, etc.) needs its own Creators API application. A US application won’t cover your UK stores.
- Amazon requires 10+ qualifying sales. You need at least 10 qualifying sales in the trailing 30 days for each marketplace you want to set up. This is Amazon’s eligibility requirement.
- Your tracking IDs don’t change. Your existing Amazon Associates tracking tags carry over. No need to update anything in your store configuration.
Do I Need to Do This?
Not at all. Your stores work great without adding your own credentials, and that won’t change. FreshStore handles the Amazon integration for you automatically.
But if you have active Amazon Associates accounts with qualifying sales, adding your credentials is a quick win. The whole setup takes about 10 minutes per marketplace, and the performance benefits kick in immediately.
